Cengiz Kurtoğlu
Cengiz Kurtoğlu (born 1959, Artvin, Turkey) is a new wave/synthpop artist. He is shortly known by the name Cengiz, the modern Turkish transcription of the name of Turco-Mongol warrior Genghis Khan. He worked as a civil servant at a tea factory in Artvin and then in 1982 migrated to Istanbul to make his dreams come true.
In 1985 his first album "Sen Sözden Anlamaz Mısın?" (Don't You Get The Words?) was released and he became very popular. His later albums were not only commercial miracles but helped him building an extremely dedicated fan group called as "Cengizciler". Fans call him as "Cengiz Baba" which means "Father Cengiz" in Turkish.
Today he is one of the symbol names of '80s for Turkey and he still releases albums full of dark love songs. At the same time he is also a successful businessman, he is the chairman of his own record label "SIMA". Read more on Last.fm.
